Movies now plays like a feed
Open git-apps.com/Movies on a phone and the newest film starts on its own. Swipe up for the next one. Twelve films, newest first, with the YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and Steam links sitting on the picture. Phones that can show HDR get the HDR versions. On a computer the films play in a phone-shaped column in the middle of the screen, and the arrow keys move between them.
Open the feedPlanetX Grandma: can you attack the neighbours?
Her grandson plays PlanetX on a monitor the size of a windscreen. Grandma watches for a minute and asks the only question that matters. The next day a truck backs up to her garage with three monitors and three PCs, and by night she has five screens and a plan for Jonas, who borrowed her ladder three years ago. 1:36.
Watch the filmPlanetX Mark Returns Home: he lasted one night
Two clones, one paddling pool, their last tank parked behind them. One shot from a green Destroyer and the tank is scrap, so Mark One presses EXIT and teleports home to his wife. He makes it through one evening, one night and one creaky floorboard at dawn. He is back at the pool before breakfast. 2:57.
Watch the filmPlanetX Subscribers: they just wanted one subscriber
Harold next door says no. So the clones park a tank with SUBSCRIBE painted on it in his driveway, hang a fighter jet over his roof and bring a 50-metre rocket. 1:33.
Watch the filmPlanetX Taxi: she ordered the cheapest taxi
Mila books the cheapest ride in town and gets CUBER: a tank the clones cut in half, welded a box into and painted yellow in one afternoon. One seat, no air conditioning, and a shortcut through a wall. 1:23.
Watch the filmPlanetX Dancers: she danced, they brought a tank
Mila dances alone in a glass dome on a marble plaza. Mark One and Mark Two roll up on their tank, clip a statue on the way and fire one shot at the skyline without meaning to. Then they get on stage and dance with her, badly. 1:12.
Watch the filmPlanetX Mark Returns: clones, no warranty
Mark One presses PLAY AGAIN and a PlanetX base builds itself around him. One man and one tank is a bit sad, so he presses CLONE. The first clone takes the jet and flies it into the ground. 1:51.
Watch the filmPlanetX Cabbage: they fought, he shipped cabbage
Two clones on a tank meet one farmer with a truck full of cabbage. In PlanetX you can win a planet without firing a shot: fill a cargo starship with food and send it to the Emperor. The farmer knows this. 1:42.
Watch the filmPlanetX Yacht: missiles, think twice
Four friends on a superyacht. The game paid for it, and now one of them wants just one more missile. 3:51.
Watch the filmPlanetX Charging: zero emissions, zero range
Two electric tanks, one city street, one very low battery. Mark One and Mark Two find out what an electric tank does when the charge runs out. One minute, no dialogue needed.
Watch the filmPlanetX Wife: she pressed ENTER
He would not stop playing PlanetX. So his wife sat down at her own computer and pressed one key. 2:12.
Watch the filmPlanetX Caveman: aliens left a computer in a cave
Thirty thousand years later it is still running, through Egypt, Rome and a wooden Roman copy that never quite worked. The longest of the shorts at 7:50, and the only one with no dialogue at all.
Watch the filmPlanetX Office, a ten-minute film about the studio
A developer promises version two on Tuesday, again, so he takes the man who pays for the servers up to the roof and down onto the planet itself. Every shot was generated one at a time, then cut, scored and mixed like a film. English and Lithuanian subtitles included.
